About PeopleWorks

Michelle Fitzgerald
The Power of Teamwork

Our practice is built on disciplines that reflect our experience, strengths and passion: change management, strategic communications, and community relations.

Regardless of the challenge our approach is consistent. We'll start by listening carefully to fully understand your vision, goals, corporate culture and circumstance. With an eye on the big picture, we'll apply our experience in human behavior to the right discipline and approach it from the people's perspective.

Just as no two people are alike, every opportunity is different and calls for a uniquely-tailored, needs-driven solution.

We excel at strategy and have no problem rolling up our sleeves to make it all happen.

We're experienced project managers, always mindful of deadlines and budgets.

We're small but mighty. We shoot high and think big.

And, we know what makes people tick.

Who are the people behind PeopleWorks Consulting?

Michelle (Irwin) Fitzgerald, ABC

I've been told time and time again that I have a knack for understanding and influencing people. Whether it comes from my experience and study in human behavior or it's just plain well the way I am, I know what makes people tick.

I've done almost everything a professional communicator can do - from writing ad copy and working with the media to working around the clock preparing for a massive strike and coaching senior leaders through major corporate mergers.

Through the International Association of Business Communicators, I have earned the Accredited Business Communicator designation (ABC.)

I have a unique specialty in change management and organizational health.

I have helped numerous leaders and employees navigate through complex changes stemming from mergers and acquisitions, changes to service delivery models, and the introduction of new IT systems, brands and strategic directions. I'm as comfortable coaching senior executives on how to communicate sensitive news as I am redesigning organizational structures and planning for major business impacts and service disruptions.

On the organizational health side, I have been involved with a project of the Metro Halifax Chamber of Commerce, the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia & Capital Health, which aims to demonstrate that organizational health is a key driver of business success. And I continue to pursue work in this emerging field.

I also have a passion for work that involves and enriches our community. In particular, I enjoy opportunities to make powerful connections between community organizations and the corporate sector. Having worked on both sides of the fence in the field of community relations and investment, I feel I have a real contribution to make.

I also believe it's my responsibility to give back to the community. Apart from my personal volunteer commitments, PeopleWorks provides community organizations with services-in-kind every year.

I am a graduate of Acadia (BA) and Mount Saint Vincent (BPR) universities. I am a former board member for the Nova Scotia Chapter of the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) and the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC Atlantic Canada.)

My professional development pursuits include certificates in leadership development, corporate coaching, project management, ToastMasters International and social marketing.

I am a former Big Sister, and former board member of Big Brothers & Sisters of Metro Halifax. I teach a program entitled 'Economics of Staying in School' as part of Junior Achievement, and I am a hospice volunteer with the VON.

But more important than credentials, I have earned the trust and confidence of employers and clients by producing quality work that meets or exceeds expectations.
